About Me

Hello! My name is Kathleen Hayes and I am a Program Director of the Barbara Welch Learning Enrichment center at Guerin College Preparatory High School. I am an alum of founding school, Mother Theodore Guerin High School, and proud to be part of the Guerin College Prep faculty! I am the product of two, proud career teacher parents, and even though I denied it in college and was convinced I was going into the business world, at heart I think I've known all my life that I was meant to be a teacher. Teaching is truly the most fulfilling thing I have ever done in my life, and seeing my students succeed makes every day in the classroom worth it!

Education

I am a product of Catholic schools from kindergarten through graduate school. Please feel free to view my educational curriculum vitae here.

My Educational Beliefs

Check out what Ms. Hayes likes to read!

My educational beliefs center around the idea that the students should be the center of life in the classroom. At the end of the day, I, as a teacher, am there to teach those students and hopefully help to shape curious, lifelong learners. I believe both teachers and students should have the opportunity to be collaborative and creative in the classroom; this can take many forms, including teachers and student collaborating on actually creating an assignment, to students being allowed various ways to complete an assignment that play to their strengths, whether that is written, performed, artistic or many of the other wonderful strengths our students bring to the classroom each day! My ultimate goal is to facilitate learning for my students and make content accessible so they can be successful, while keeping in mind that every student will not arrive at success in the same time or the same way, and that is absolutely fine!

We Are Living in a Technology World!

As a 21st century teacher, teaching 21st century tech savvy students, technology plays a major role in education today! I believe that technology, everything from social media to electronic scholarly articles, has its place in the classroom. It is my job, as the teacher, to prepare activities that seamlessly integrate technology resources making them an integral part of the curriculum and my lesson and not simply an add on that is being added to the lesson to make it appear to be a technologically integrated lesson. Our students today were born into a technological world and are becoming technologically savvy by the time they start pre-school! As a teacher it is my responsibility to integrate content and technology so that my tech savvy students do not feel that coming into my classroom means having to "power down" from being their normal technology immersed selves.
